Port Matilda Borough Proclaims September as Suicide Awareness & Prevention Month

Port Matilda Borough Council has adopted Resolution No. 2026-8, officially proclaiming September 2026 as Suicide Awareness and Prevention Month and recognizing September 10, 2026, as Suicide Awareness and Prevention Day. 


The resolution highlights the importance of raising awareness about mental health, reducing the stigma surrounding mental illness, and encouraging individuals to seek help when needed. It also recognizes the impact suicide has on families and communities and emphasizes that prevention is possible through education, support, early intervention, and access to mental health resources.


Port Matilda Borough encourages residents to support one another, learn the warning signs of suicide, and help foster a community where conversations about mental health are welcomed and individuals know that help is available.
