This edition of the Port Matilda Borough Newsletter celebrates the success of the Borough's Centennial Celebration, recognizes the many volunteers and sponsors who made the event possible, announces a part-time employment opportunity, provides Halloween trick-or-treat information, includes a legal notice regarding the sale of Borough property, and shares important winter safety reminders.


Centennial Celebration Cornhole Tournament Results

The Port Matilda Borough Centennial Celebration Cornhole Tournament was a tremendous success, bringing together friendly competition, community spirit, and plenty of fun.

Congratulations to the tournament winners:

  • 🥉 3rd Place: Team Ramrod

Community Park Improvements

Many volunteers worked together to prepare Community Park for the Centennial Celebration.

Special thanks include:

  • Sons of the American Legion for removing old grills and installing three new park grills.

  • Sons of the American Legion for improvements to the concession stand, including a new serving counter.

  • Brad and Tina Pritts for repairing the footbridge following vandalism damage and repairing a pavilion picnic table.

  • Bernie Kalt and Steve Patton for ongoing groundskeeping and maintenance at Community Park and the municipal lot.

The Borough thanks everyone whose efforts showcased the pride our community takes in its public spaces.


Help Wanted: Part-Time Assistant Maintenance Person

Port Matilda Borough is accepting applications for a Part-Time Assistant Maintenance Person.

Requirements

  • Must be able to pass all required child clearances.

  • Previous maintenance experience is preferred but not required.

Legal Notice: Borough Property for Sale

Port Matilda Borough is accepting sealed bids for the purchase of Centre County Tax Parcel 35-003-078, currently zoned Stream Valley.

Important information includes:

  • Sealed bids must be received by October 20, 2025.

  • Bids will be opened on November 18, 2025.

  • The purchaser is responsible for transfer taxes, recording costs, and legal fees.

  • The property includes an unoccupied office structure.

  • The property is being sold as-is, without warranties except as to title.

  • The successful bidder must submit a 10% deposit within five days of the award and close within 30 days.

  • The Borough reserves the right to accept or reject any and all bids.

Winter Safety Reminders

As colder weather approaches, residents are reminded to prepare for winter and help keep the community safe.

Fire Safety

Remember to:

  • Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms monthly.

  • Keep combustible materials at least three feet away from heating equipment.

  • Have chimneys professionally inspected and cleaned annually.

  • Use fireplaces safely with proper screens.

  • Never rely on candles during power outages—use flashlights instead.


Keep Fire Hydrants Clear

Residents are encouraged to keep at least three feet of clearance around nearby fire hydrants after snowfalls to ensure firefighters have quick access during emergencies.


Keep Mailboxes Accessible

Please clear snow from around your mailbox and maintain a safe approach for postal carriers to help ensure uninterrupted mail delivery.


Snow Removal Reminder

Property owners are responsible for clearing sidewalks within 24 hours after snowfall or freezing precipitation has ended.

Snow and ice should be completely removed or properly treated to provide safe pedestrian access.

Please remember:

  • Do not shovel snow into public streets.

  • Remove snow and ice from vehicles before driving.

  • Failure to clear sidewalks may result in enforcement action under Borough regulations.
